| soldering ISNT the best and in fact isnt rated for use in military environments on many many connectors. Soldering has an issue, that with stranded wire. The solder wicks some way down the wire through the strands and causes a stress riser where it ends in the cable which can easily break if the wire is subjected to vibration. try it yourself. Do a soldered pin, then bend the pin and look how sharp the wire is at the bend point. Then look at a crimped connection. Its a radius. Way less stress with crimping. It also fails in amateur use due to the fact that few people can actually complete a good solder joint with the correct amount and temperature of solder applied. Most of the issues with crimped joints are with people using the incorrect tools for the connectors and the wrong cross section cable for the pin. In automotive environments a properly done crimp connection is FAR FAR more reliable than a soldered connection.
